Danish Smørrebrød Takeout Extravaganza!!

While we are very sad that we cannot hold our Scandinavian porch series dinners this January and February, we have cooked up something fun and different for you all that will hopefully fill the void in a more safe manner. We are excited to present the take home DIY Danish Smørrebrød extravaganza!!! What is Smørrebrød you say? It is the most delicious type of open faced sandwich, that is ubiquitous in Denmark. Picture a thin slice of dense rye bread made by Counterpoint Baking, covered in any sort of combinations of deliciousness. We will pre slice the bread, and send you home with a mountain of delicious toppings that you can mix and match to create your very own Smørrebrod in the comfort of your own home. Each weekend will have it’s own menu, that will include a vegetable, fish and meat based option, with our suggested topping combinations. While each weekend’s offerings will be a surprise, this is the basic template. Top your slice of rye bread with some sort of fat (think compound butter, creme Fraiche, paté…) , then add protein (think gravlax, hard boiled egg, ham), add some crunch and tang (pickled beets, apple slices, fresh herbs) and you are good to go. There are rules, which we’ll convey, but the real fun will be in you all creating your individual and unique combos! You’ll have some aquavit to sip on, mulled wine on the stovetop, candles made by us, all the fun things to amp up the Hygge and create an evening of cozy relaxation. And to finish, there’ll be a box of Scandinavian cookies to munch on. Not a bad way to spend an evening we think… We will try to accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies, just provide us with that information when filling out the pick up request form and we’ll get back to you with a yes or no.
