Chardonnay, exploring the world beyond buttered popcorn and flint! We love our classes so much, but this month is so busy with events, so we were able to only squeeze one in! It’s a darn hot summer, so for this month’s class we be focusing on the incredibly diverse world of Chardonnay. There is a reason that Chardonnay is one of the leading grapes across all wine growing regions. I truly love this grape, and feel that it has gotten a bad rap as of late. In the movement away from overly oaked, higher ABV wines, many people now associate Chardonnay with only that. We will explore five examples of this truly classic grape, from across the world. Through those tastes, we will dive into the themes of malolactic fermentation, oak usage, soil type influence, climatic influence, and clonal selection.
